Pregnancy can occur when a woman's ovum meets a male sperm cell, which is both mature or mature. S Before the both is released and ready for fertilization, the cells of the system of reproduction must go through the process formation and maturation. This process is called spermatogenesis and oogenesis.

In medical terms, spermatogenesis is the process of production and development of sperm cells in the testes in men. Meanwhile, the production process and the development of female eggs is called oogenesis. Both of these processes are called gametogenesis.

Spermatogenesis
Sperm consists of three parts, namely the head of the oval, body, and a long tail. The head contains the genetic material (gene), while the tail is used to move. The sperm length from head to tail is 0.05 millimeters.

Spermatogenesis begins in the testes. In a small tube system called the seminiferous tubule, the semicircular sperm's early cells grow to form like tadpoles. After that, the sperm moves to the epididymis. From seminiferous tubules to epididymis takes 4-6 weeks. From the epididymis, the sperm moves back into the vas deferens to mix with the semen.

When ejaculation, the sperm released by men amounts to nearly 100 million. But it takes only one sperm to fertilize an egg until it develops into a fetus and child.

An hour after ejaculation, at least 32 percent of sperm will die. But if it is in the female body, sperm can live up to 5 days.

Oogenesis
While still in the womb, the female ovary contains about 6-7 million eggs. At birth, the number of eggs is reduced to only about 1 million pieces. These eggs "fall asleep" and will just "wake up" when they hit puberty. After puberty, this is the oogenesis or the process of egg formation occurs for once a month, following the menstrual cycle.

Toward the end of puberty, the mature eggs will be released by the ovaries into the fallopian tubes (tubal fall) about once a month. If successfully fertilized by sperm, the egg will settle in the fallopian tube and attached to the uterine wall. Otherwise, the egg will be removed from the body about two weeks later, along with the blood and inner lining of the uterus.

In puberty, from about one million eggs there will be only about 300,000 pieces left. Of these, only 300-400 eggs are ripe and will be released during the female reproductive period. As women get older, the number and quality of the remaining eggs will decrease further.

Differences of Spermatogenesis and Oogenesis
Broadly speaking, spermatogenesis and oogenesis can be divided into:

Spermatogenesis

The process of sperm cell formation.
Occurs inside the male testes.
Lasts from puberty to the end of an age.
The growth period is short.

Oogenesis

The process of egg cell formation.
Occurs inside the ovaries of women.
It begins when the woman is still a fetus in her mother's womb, stops, then begins again after puberty.
Long growth period.

Spermatogenesis and oogenesis are biological processes related to reproductive function. From both processes, the beginning of man can be created.
